Early colonialism seized the lands of indigenous communities, created private property, and collected rents from the original custodians. The new colonialism takes over our biodiversity and indigenous knowledge. The new colonialism extracts our data through digital technologies. We are the raw material. Our data is manipulated through algorithms to modify our behavior to create more markets and more control. The new colonialism colonizes life.

About glaciers retreat

Caleta Potter is a true natural laboratory to study the effects of climate change. In recent years, what impressed me the most is the retreat of glaciers, whose impact generates ice-free areas that become colonized by different organisms associated with the seabed. On the other hand, when the glacier melts, a large amount of sediment is released. That changes the conditions of the environment because less light penetrates the water, which becomes cloudier, and that affects the algae that do less photosynthesis.
