In the last two issues of Opinión Sur we requested financial support from our readers. Since the response was weak, we asked ourselves what the reasons might have been for such a modest reaction. Certainly, shortage of resources may have also affected our readers, but we believe there may have been other reasons too. One reason might have been that the subjects we addressed and the way we approached them did not please those who read us; yet, that contradicts the, overall, positive reactions we receive. Another possible reason is that we may have not been clear in explaining the difficult financial situation Opinión Sur is going through; this may be so because we are overcome by a certain feeling of self-consciousness when it comes to asking for help; hence, we now send this categorical SOS in order to make it very clear that the support we are requesting is essential for our subsistence. One third reason might be that our readers think that a small contribution is insignificant for Opinión Sur. Nothing could be farther from the truth as, since the editors and contributors are volunteers (we receive no pay whatsoever), the joint budget of Opinión Sur and Opinión Sur Joven is more than modest: if each one of the 69,000 subscribers of Opinión Sur contributed one dollar a year, we would solve the problem of our financial subsistence. One fourth reason might be that sending a contribution requires a small effort; this is true, and for this reason, we have done our best to simplify the procedure to the greatest extent possible ([how to contribute->http://www.opinionsur.org.ar/Community-of-Opinion-Sur-sponsors?lang=en]).
In view of all the above mentioned, we dare request a voluntary annual subscription of US$12 from all those readers who are in a position to make a contribution. Larger contributions will obviously be welcome.
Two articles in this issue of Opinión Sur analyze the evolution of the global crisis and the geopolitical transformations that have been taking place. The third article introduces the subject of inclusive venture developers as a specific mechanism to tackle, from a productive perspective, the inequality existing within countries, one of the factors that resulted in the crisis acquiring such virulence and scope. We hope you find these articles interesting, and that they contribute somehow to sustaining new initiatives and policy decisions.
Cordial greetings,
The Editors
Opinion Sur
