Rarely in the long history of life has a situation of planetary chaos occurred as in the present day
We were used to regularities and systemic orders; although in recent decades, we have also experienced with increasing frequency irregularities such as tsunamis, hurricanes, earthquakes and extreme hot and cold events. Such phenomena have led scientists to think and try to understand how chaotic situations could occur within the given order.
From there arose a whole science, that of chaos, as important as the others, to the point that some have even said that the XX century will be remembered by Einstein’s theory of relativity, by Heisenberg / Bohr quantum mechanics. … and by the Lorenz / Prigogine chaos theory .
The essence of chaos theory is that a very small change in the initial conditions of a situation leads to unpredictable effects. The “butterfly effect” is given as an example. Small initial, random modifications, such as the flapping of a butterfly’s wings in Brazil, can cause atmospheric modifications until culminating in a storm in New York. The theoretical assumption is that all things are interlinked and are assuming new elements, creating complexities in the course of their existence (in this case, heat, humidity, winds, terrestrial and cosmic energies) so that the final situation is completely different from the initial one.
Chaos is everywhere, in the universe, in society, and in every person. That is, the orders are not linear and static; they are dynamic, and they always seek the balance that keeps them active.
The universe originated from a tremendous initial chaos (big bang). Evolution happened and happens over many millennia to bring order to this chaos.
However, here a novelty arises: chaos is never only chaotic, but it keeps within itself, in gestation, a new order. Logically it has its destructive, chaotic moment, without which the new order could not break through. Chaos is generative of this new order.
Who analyzed this phenomenon in detail was the great Russian-Belgian scientist Ilya Prigogine (1917-2003), Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1977. He particularly studied the conditions that allow life to emerge. According to this great scientist, whenever there is an open system and a situation of chaos (therefore out of order and far from equilibrium) and there is a non-linearity, the connectivity between the parts generates a new order, which would be the Life (cf. Order out of Chaos, 1984).
That process knows forks and fluctuations. Therefore, the order is never given a priori. It depends on several factors that go in one direction or another, hence the immense biodiversity.
We do all this very brief reflection to help us better understand the current pandemic chaos. We undeniably live in a situation of complete chaos, destructive chaos of millions of human lives. No one can say when it will end, or where we are going. The virus has multiple variants; it is his triumph over our cells. Undeniably, it is chaotic and terrorizing the entire humanity.
It raises fundamental questions: what have we done with nature to make it punish us with such a lethal virus? Where did we go wrong? What changes must we make in relation to nature to prevent it from sending us a veritable range of other viruses?
We know that hidden within chaos is a higher and better order. The worst that could happen to us would be continuity, going back to the past that originated it. We have to use our creative fantasy and, above all, forge, through a historical practice, a friendlier order of life, friendly, fraternal and fair.
It would be generative chaos. We have to understand the context where the coronavirus came from. It is an expression of the Anthropocene, that is, of the systematic aggression of the human being to nature and to Gaia, Mother Earth. It is the consequence of having treated the Earth as a mere inert reservoir of resources at our disposal, and not as a living superorganism, that deserves care and respect.
Since the industrial revolution, we have exploited it so much, that it can no longer regenerate itself and offer us all the vital goods and services. We have to inaugurate a relationship of synergy and sustainability with nature, feeling ourselves part of it, responsible for its perpetuity, and not its owners and masters. If we do not carry out this ecological conversion, we may experience unimaginable catastrophes.
In the Brazilian case, the first thing we have to do is to preserve the immense ecological wealth that we inherit from nature, in humid forests, abundance of water, fertile soils and an immense biodiversity.
Then we have to overcome the marginalization, the cowardly hatred that we pay to the poor. The contempt and humiliation cruelly committed against the people who were enslaved, has passed to the impoverished. Such inhumanity has left deep marks on the population.
Not last, we have to liquidate the perverse legacy of the Casa Grande, translated by rent-seeking behavior and by a few millionaires who control a large part of our finances. They make fortunes out of the pandemic, without empathy for family members who have lost more than half-a-million loved ones. They are the base on which the current necrophilous government is supported; whose president has become an ally of the virus.
These points are the greatest obstacle to overcoming the chaos installed in Brazil.
We have to form a broad front of progressive forces and enemies of the neo-colonization of the country, to unravel the new order, hidden in the current chaos, but that wants to be born. We have to consummate that delivery even if it is painful. Otherwise, we will continue to be hostages and victims of those who always thought corporately only of themselves, with their backs to the people, who devastated nature with their agribusiness and reinforce the irruption of the coronavirus among us.
We must be inspired by the Universe, born out of primordial chaos, but which, as it evolved, was creating new and more complex orders each time, until generating the human species. Our mission is to guarantee life, Mother Earth and ourselves, to create the Common home within which we can all live in justice, peace and joy. This model must emerge from the bowels of the current chaos and lay the foundations for a new beginning for humanity.
