We are so immersed, and sometimes overwhelmed, with every day concerns that we do not find it easy to straighten up so as to develop strategic thinking. And, however, it is essential to do so as with it we contribute to set or adjust the course of a country, a locality, a company, a social movement, a family. Opinion Sur tries to generate strategic thinking regarding the development of Southern Hemisphere’s countries, although some of our statements could eventually be of use to other latitudes. We channel the production of strategic thinking through articles published in the Geopolitics, Development and Transformation sections.
We are aware that there are several other equally valid perspectives: ours simply add some elements to an elusive and changing truth that feeds itself on countless sources. Each one interprets what is happening based on his or her ideas, knowledge, creative intuition, experience, capacity to generate better syntheses by choosing and prioritizing certain elements of the reality we observe. While developing strategic thinking we are navigating in the midst of provisional and temporary issues, the heterogeneity of circumstances, the partial and particular professional bias, the cosmogony that guides us, mobilizing utopias. They are turbulent waters that at times seem to add acceleration to the already complex social, political, economic and environmental dynamics that, to top it all, are but dimensions of a single reality that constantly unfolds and retracts. It is in the context of this fascinating challenge of developing strategic thinking from the perspective of the South that we give our present.
We hope the articles of this issue are of interest and use to you.
Cordial greetings,
The Editors
