About generating respect or instilling fear
A sense of anguish invaded the bodies to the point of generating that feeling of isolation, desolation, and uneasiness that Arendt masterfully describes. And this is no coincidence. They want us to be depressed, scared, and defeated. If generating respect is the direct consequence of a good ruler, instilling fear is the maneuver of the tyrant.
