One of the negative effects of neoliberal advances is that it diverts the transforming energy from the construction of fair societies to resisting abuses and the loss of rights that are punishing peoples today. Indeed, it is necessary to preserve what we have conquered and it is worth the energy devoted to that.
At the same time, a new critical challenge emerges: how are we able to build the foundations for what will come when we regain control of our countries while we are in the middle of the resistance to the setbacks? In other words, that the restorative wave of policies that favor privileged minorities does not impede the revision of our own forces and mistakes, the evaluation of possible trajectories, helping one another, choosing the best leaderships to organize and strengthen popular initiative. We will need to recover what is valuable from previous efforts enhancing them with experience. Because there are no recipes to apply, not even those closer to our preferences; there are only paths and orientations that need to be specified depending on the circumstances and dynamics of each situation.
Let us hope that we may also be aware that construction spaces unfold together with the challenges we need to address and, thus, are calling on and allowing for a wide-raging participation of groups and people in those areas where each one feels is able and willing to contribute.
