Now we are probably more mature and, hence, ready to move on to a qualitatively new stage in the relations among political forces. Each one with his own identity and ideological emphases. Without letting up on arm-wrestling or reciprocal control. Yet, expanding two capacities we are far from having exerted to their fullest extent: sincerity and courage. More sincere in our political discourse, taking what we say a little closer to what we actually think, and a little less tied to what best suits our interests. And more courageous to explain, each one to his own people, the limits of our own utopias.
José Mujica
About addictions and the role of pedagogy

Many addictive behaviors arise to fill some inner vacuum; it is there where the pedagogical work should be focused.

About fear as a domination weapon

Fear has always been a domination weapon, especially by people who are incapable of inspiring respect. In fact, the brain of complex vertebrates contains an organ that detects danger signals: the brain amygdala. When someone or something threatens you, this amygdala is stimulated and alerts the cerebral cortex, our knowledge organ, which sends orders to stay still, seek cover, hide or flee.
