Offer to university libraries in Latin America

A large collection of electronic research and teaching materials in the social and environmental sciences selected by the Global Development And Environment Institute at Tufts University is being offered, free of charge, to university libraries in Latin America.

More information [[The materials were assembled by the Global Development And Environment Institute (GDAE) at Tufts University (Massachusetts, U.S.A.). They include:

– GDAE’s Social Science Library: “Frontier Thinking in Sustainable Development and Human Well-Being.” This well-organized collection of 3,400 articles in PDF format includes more than 10,000 full bibliographic references, and represents 7 social sciences: Anthropology, Economics, History, Philosophy, Political Science, Social Psychology, and Sociology. The collection is distributed on a single USB drive or (for those who prefer that technology) a pair of CD-ROMs. An online version, without the full-text articles (due to copyright restrictions), may be reviewed at: www.gdae.org/socialsciencelibrary

– A CD containing writings on environmental subjects from the WorldWatch Institute;
– Three CDs containing articles from the UN Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD); and

– Four hours of multimedia DVDs developed in conjunction with “Water and Sanitation Related Diseases and the Environment: Challenges, Interventions, and Preventive Measures,” a massive book prepared by Horizon International at Yale University

The materials can be used without Internet access. Individuals are free to copy them for their own use; however GDAE can only send them to university libraries, where they are to be made available to all of the library’s users.
