Regional meeting of local governments: tools to foster productive endeavours

Local governments need to encourage economic initiatives in their land and they therefore require new instruments for promoting productive endeavors, especially inclusive projects. In the meeting held in Riobamba, Ecuador, some of those instruments were revised: what they consist of and how to implement them.

Preservation of natural grazing land and its biodiversity

This initiative seeks to preserve natural grazing land and its biodiversity in Uruguay, Paraguay, Brazil and Argentina by mobilizing producers, civil society organizations, the scientific and technological community and the governments of the region. It encourages the economic sustainability of this biome through grazing land stockbreeding, and this guarantees a differential value in meat as it produces healthy food and it preserves the ecosystem, aspects that are highly valued by the world’s most demanding consumers.

Development of biodegradable plastic

The future of cans is biodegradable plastic extracted from renewable sources such as corn, instead of using plastic that is produced from oil derivatives. A material is biodegradable when it can be degraded into simpler substances through the action of live organisms and thus be eliminated from the environment. Various initiatives explore this new non-contaminant plastic.
