TED is a small non-profit devoted to ideas worth spreading. Although it initially focused on technology, entertainment and design topics, it slowly began to diversify its field of application. It operates based on the certainty that good ideas can change attitudes, lives and one’s own world. It offers free exchange of knowledge and the inspiration of the world’s greatest thinkers.

Victory over corruption in Brazil

Congress passed a law prohibiting politicians who have been condemned by the Justice to run for elections. They will remain disqualified during eight years if they have been condemned to two or more years in jail or if their intention to commit a crime can be proved. The law originated in a popular initiative, supported by 44 civil rights organizations and 1,6 million signatures, a figure that made raising it to Congress possible.

“Straight to the point”

This campaign intends that the role rural production plays in the development of Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico is acknowledged, with the purpose of strengthening basic grain small scale agriculture, for instance, corn. Although more than 18 per cent of the active population works in agriculture, more than 4.1 billion dollars are imported in food. From being food producers, these three countries have become highly dependent upon US imports in the last years.
