Celebration and new challenge

Opinión Sur celebrates 5 years of existence: 60 issues communicating ourselves with 69,000 Spanish, English and Portuguese-speaking persons who receive our publication. We have tried to share what we have learned through Opinion Sur articles, Opinion Sur Youth notes, the book collection, e-books, journalistic columns, by participating in events and working sessions. We are pleased with the effort made to open new spaces for Southern Hemisphere perspectives to keep contributing to this globalized world in which we all live.

In celebrating this anniversary we are thrilled to embark on a new initiative: assisting public, private and civil society organizations in the matters we specialize in. It is the kind of work we have been occasionally doing for some time in cooperation with South North and Sur Norte, our sister organizations. We seek to combine rigorous analysis with the development of actions that may impact on the course of events. Within this area we offer workshops that may enrich the strategic vision of those who lead development initiatives, the first of which is a Working Session on 21 Century Microcredit, oriented toward revising ways to leverage and complement the action with microcredit (a detail of the Session may be found in the article Transforming by Catalyzing Microcredit).
We would also like to share that in the past month of July we had the opportunity to take part in a series of meetings organized by Guabún and Avina, within the context of the Chiloé, un territorio en movimiento initiative. We profited enormously from this visit, in which our article Programming local development from the future was inspired.
As always, we hope you find the articles and sections in this issue useful.

Cordial greetings,
The Editors
