A pyramid of opportunities is shaking

Stormy winds continue to blow, now with their epicenter in Europe. It seems as if the world is going to collapse, but it is not so: it is a course and a way of functioning that are failing. For the hegemonic thinking there is no other way to be, live, work, feel and grow; and from that perspective those who have been at the top of the pyramid of opportunities for decades try by all means possible not to see their privileges affected.

The pyramid of opportunities is shaking in a double sense: because of the growing fear of those who enjoy its current structure and because the majorities, trapped in shortages and assaulted in their significance, build up indignation after finding they must bear the crisis with a disproportionate share of responsibility.

It will have to be said one more time: the interests that prevail today, with financial capital as their cornerstone, seek to impose a diagnosis and a treatment that, ultimately, aim to preserve privileges and restore the pre-crisis order that enabled their explosive growth. For those interests any other solution is synonym of chaos; they pretend to discredit and neutralize other options. It is true that we are going through a phase of severe turbulence and the ones that have always been punished suffer from it even more; but we must become aware of the fact that the kind of solutions that are now adopted carry within them the seeds of what the world will be like after the crisis. The panic with which continuity attempts to rush decisions does not help build sustainable alternatives; on the contrary, it is useful to those who exacerbate fears in order to force the restoration they seek and that they cannot defend openly.

We trust the contents in this issue of Opinión Sur can be useful.
