About tools shaping us

Cars enhance the travel capacity of our legs and atrophy them at the same time. TV enables us to see so far away that we no longer look at our surroundings. Phones allow us to come in close contact with people far away and alienate us from people physically present. We shape our tools and then our tools shape us.

Marshall McLuhan

About television, which makes a reasoned exposition of proposals impossible

Television, as a technology that offers ever-changing images to catch your eye, is inextricably oriented towards entertainment and not towards reflection. In this sense, as a media to debate public issues, makes a reasoned exposure of proposals impossible since faces are favored over minds, beauty over intelligence.

Neil Postman

About the impact of being permanently connected

E-mails, Twitter, Web pages, cell phones, all working at the same time are making our brain used to a dynamics of simple, short messages that must be immediately processed. Constant stimuli that prevent us from submerging in a deep cognitive experience: a situation that goes from being elective to becoming an addiction. We feel that we cannot become disconnected.

Nicholas Carr
