About saints and communists
If I give bread to a hungry person, people say I’m a saint. If I ask why this person is hungry, they say I’m a communist.
Bishop Helder Cámara
About those who play with our money
The first thing is to put the financial system under control. It is operating according to its own rules and it will lead us beyond the edge of the cliff. Bankers use a language political leaders want to believe, or do not understand, I don’t know. But the point is that they end up doing whatever they please. And they will not be penalized, or incarcerated, or fined; they will keep doing crazy things. Banking is too big to go bankrupt, too big for those accountable to go to jail; if that is the case, it is too big to exist! It would be better if retail banking existed on one hand, and on the other, there was investment banking, not both under the same roof. And if investment banking goes bankrupt, so be it, but they should not play with our money!
Susan George
About secret instructions
Existence has given me plenty, or at least I have known how to reap a lot from it; in these moments, same as in my times of happiness, and due to absolutely opposite reasons, it seems to me it has nothing to offer me anymore; and nonetheless I am not sure I have nothing left to learn from it. I will hear its secret instructions until the end. (…) The time of impatience has passed; where I am now, despair would be as tacky as hope.
Marguerite Yourcenar
