Immigrants have always helped to build and defend this country. Being American is not a matter of blood or birth; it is a matter of faith, of shared fidelity to the ideas and values that are so cherished to us. Immigrants’ legalization also means that we will rely on younger workforce, and in an increasingly interconnected world, our country’s diversity is a great advantage for world competition.

About attention deficit

When a child is not paying attention he may not have “attention deficit” but interest or motivation deficit: he is with his mind elsewhere. To treat this as deficit and say there is no attention and hence lack of dopamine, to try to solve the problem with a pill, is a dangerous reductionism.

About learning how to talk and tolerate dissention

The possibility of learning how to chat “without meaning to be right”, of learning how to tolerate dissention even when disagreeing to the utmost with the person we are speaking to, and open our mind to the new things other people bring us allows to build, from solidarity, new hope for those who suffer most in silence.
