Pesticides added to the soil and their destination in the environment

A publication made by researchers from the Argentinean Instituto Nacional de Tecnología Agropecuaria (INTA) (National Institute for Agricultural Technology) states that FAO data show that Argentina is the second largest user of pesticides per hectare in its productive systems. However, the intensive use of pesticides is not reflected on a higher yield per hectare as compared with other countries such as United States, Germany, France and Denmark. They conclude that the presence of pesticides in different environmental matrixes indicate that there is a soil depletion in its function as reactor (transformation, filtering, cushioning and depuration of substances).
