The Chicos Association (Asociación Chicos) teaches artistic, recreational and craft training workshops to some 250 “street boys and girls” in the city of Rosario, Argentina. These workshops constitute an opportunity to value what kids bring from the street, generating trust, solidarity and commitment with their peers. There, kids realize that they are not responsible for being poor, for having conflictive families, but that indeed they are responsible for choosing what to do with that and which path to take. This effort includes a Day Centre, where kids are daily served breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack, and an open door place kids can attend whenever they need it.

Players’ melting pot
The Town of Río Cuarto, in the Argentine province of Cordoba, has created an organization run by civil society representatives to implement several community programs addressed to socially vulnerable families. The Street Kids Project seeks to include 7 to 13 year-old children and teenagers who wander and spend almost all day on the street in free-of-charge informal social and educational spaces. Other initiatives are the creation of play rooms; the La Minga Production Greenhouse, where 15 youngsters resumed school while growing flower and aromatic plants; the De Jóvenes a Jóvenes (From Youngsters to Youngsters) radio program; and a serigraphy venture.
