Opinión Sur is a free online-publication dedicated to finding new solutions to poverty in Latin America and to analyzing the impact of global processes on the region. Edited by Sur Norte Inversión y Desarrollo (South North Investment and Development), with co-editors in Buenos Aires and New York, it aims to present a uniquely Latin perspective – suggestions and strategies for economic development from those who work in the region.

Opinión Sur has grown from a modest publication first published in February 2003 into a valuable voice of the South – complementing imported conceptions and misconceptions about Latin American development with home-grown ideas. The new English edition extends the reach of Opinión Sur further still. Hopefully, it will facilitate exchanges with other English speaking countries facing similar challenges.

The English edition opened with the July 2004 issue of Opinión Sur ( issue 13 of the Spanish-language edition). Since that time, we’ve been publishing editions in English and Spanish. One by one we will translate the previous twelve issues. The Opinión Sur team is composed exclusively of volunteers; our readership grows as subscribers invite friends and colleagues to join our community. We are eager to extend our network of readers to Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Oceania, Europe and North America.
