About self-serving knowledge
The functioning of the current educational system is based on certain subjects that are at the service of what is immediately profitable. Parents and teachers conceive this “knowledge” as a useful investment relative to the professional future of the student and discard as useless whatever does not contribute to that end.
Juan Goytisolo
About forests and their fauna
Forests are necessary for various reasons. One of them is that they capture large amounts of carbon dioxide, which otherwise would be released into the environment. But if we do not preserve animals as much as we do trees, very frequently the forests will be destroyed, because many of them depend on animals to scatter their seeds. There are many seeds that cannot germinate if they do not pass through the digestive tract of certain animals… Therefore, a forest just with trees is a forest that will die.
