Vegetal residues transformed into fibre for food
With skin, vegetable waste and other agribusiness residues, this initiative produces a diet liquid- thickening fibre that is very useful for human beings. Thus, the project takes advantage of a residue and adds value to it; environmental pollution is reduced; and a new tool is offered for the food industry. The percentage of production that is wasted is very high; in Argentina about 1,800.000 tons of residues are produced every year. For further information
Communication Technologies used as Tools for Social Action
Social networks, applications created by citizens themselves and the social effects of a call made on the Internet, make possible a new way of social action based on modern IT. A good example of this is Ziudad initiative which facilitates communication between citizens and their municipality as well as among companies and their clients, using an innovative buzzing system to make sure citizen opinions are heard. Pro-huerta: Food safety for poverty stricken population
Pro-huerta is a program geared to poverty stricken people; it addresses problems regarding access to healthy food encouraging a more diversified and balanced diet through small scale production of fresh food by the consumers themselves. This initiative offers a set of services, including training and communication about urban agriculture, school vegetable gardens, tools, food preservation, construction and appropriate technologies, and organic seeds and fertilizers. It also provides technical assistance for people to be able to set up organic vegetable gardens and farms for self consumption on a family, school, community and institutional level. Pro-huerta facilitates participation in open fairs, barter networks and micro-ventures.
